Are you looking for an alternative to coffee or carbs to give you a boost before training ? Give Matcha or MCT Oil a try.
Matcha is fine, powdered Japanese green tea thats supports health, energy and vitality. It is made by whisking it with hot water, and it creates a frothy texture. You’ll need to use a milk frother – ( either a hand held one, or the Nespresso type ones) Matcha has a small amount of caffeine and is packed with anti-oxidants – 10 times the antioxidants of green tea. Counteracting oxidative stress is one of the biggest concerns for endurance athletes.
Matcha has the ability to boost your immunity, control your stress and assist in weight loss. It is a great “pick me up” alternative to coffee. Choose a good quality Matcha , the cheaper ones can be bitter. I love the Healthy Chef Matcha or the T2 Matcha.
Another popular pre-training fuel is MCT Oil . It is a fat ( Medium Chain Triglyceride ) which is able to be used immediately by the body as fuel, much like a carbohydrate. MCT can be useful for people following a low carb high fat protocol. Coconut Oil has some MCT’s , but if you want to real deal, buy a good quality MCT oil. Be careful though – too much MCT oil will have you running for the loo. !
