My top four reasons:
1. Helps to stabilise blood sugar levels to avoid energy slumps and the roller coaster of consent cravings
2. Makes you feel satisfied after eating
3. Provides you with the building blocks (amino acids) that make up muscles, hair, nails, brain cells
4. Required to make essential hormones such as adrenaline
So what should you eat to get enough protein?
Animal
These Animal proteins provide complete amino acid profile and are the best source of protein
Meat – beef, lamb, turkey, chicken, pork
Seafood – fish, shellfish, prawns
Eggs – the perfect protein !
Dairy – milk, cheese, cream, yoghurt
Plant
Plant based proteins are incomplete proteins and only provide some of the amino acids, so need to be eaten in combinations so that all of the essential amino acids are available to the body. This is often called “food combining” and is vitally important if you do not eat animal proteins.
Nuts and Seeds – cashews, brazil nuts, walnuts, pepitas, sunflower, sesame
Legumes and Peas – lentils, chickpeas, lima beans, kidney beans etc
Grains – Oats, Wheat germ, Rice Bran
When should you eat protein ?
Ideally every meal and snack should contain a small amount of protein
